With OBS integration you will be able to connect LumiaStream directly to your OBS setup and integrate alerts, triggers, and a number of other exciting features. So without further ado, let's get into it.
What is OBS?
OBS or Open Broadcaster Software is an open-source software used to both stream and record. Because it is free and open-source, OBS is the most commonly used recording software out there. It was a no-brainer for us to create Lumia Stream integration so that you can use Lumia with this versatile software.
OBS can be downloaded from the official website here for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
How to connect LumiaStream to OBS
The first step in setting up your awesome streaming setup using OBS and LumiaStream is to connect the two. The connection process is quick and easy and can be done in only a couple of minutes. A video guide is available on the LumiaStream website, but if you’d like a written guide keep reading.
Step 1: Installing OBS Websockets
First things first, open up Lumia Streams and navigate to the options menu in the top right of the screen. Navigate to OBS connection through the following steps:
Connections > Services > OBS
After clicking on the OBS icon you will be brought to the OBS connectivity hub. This is where the connection between Lumia Stream and OBS can be controlled. At the top of the page is a link that will take you to the Github repository for OBS Websockets.
Once you’ve downloaded and run the Websockets file you’re all set for the next step!
Step 2: Enabling Websockets in OBS
Ok, now that Websockets is installed, go ahead and open up OBS. Once inside you’re going to navigate to the Websockets server settings.
Tools > WebSocket Server Settings
Once you’ve made sure that the “Enable WebSockets server” option is enabled, you can adjust the port and authentication settings if necessary.
Step 3: Connecting OBS to Lumia Stream
After making sure that your OBS Websocket server settings are in order, re-open Lumia Stream. The default host should be automatically set to “localhost”.
The port number should correspond to the port number that was set in the Websockets server settings in OBS. Make sure the ports are the same.
A password is only necessary if one was set for OBS Websockets. If port authentication was enabled, then you can enter your password into the password field.
After that, hit check connection, and if the Connection button turns green then you’re all set! Hit Submit, and you’re ready to integrate OBS with Lumia Stream!
Lumia Customization Options with OBS
Now that your Lumia Stream is successfully connected to OBS, you have near-infinite customization possibilities available to you. In this guide, we’ll be covering two things that you can do with your new integration: OBS alerts, and OBS triggers.
OBS Alerts
OBS Alerts operate similarly to the alerts in many of the applications you’re familiar with. You can find a list of the alerts you can use under
Settings > Alerts > OBS
Under this menu, you will find a couple of different options. These options correspond to events that may happen during your stream. You can set Lumia to do a certain action upon the activation of these said events. The events you have access to are: switching profiles, switching scenes, transitions, stream start, and stream stop. Using Lumia, you can change what happens when these alerts are activated, how long they last, and many other awesome features.
OBS Triggers
OBS triggers are currently only available to premium users at this time. With OBS triggers, Lumia has the ability to interact and change things within OBS based on reactions, chat, and animations.
For example, let's say we want chat to be able to manipulate or interact with the source that is set in OBS. Through the use of OBS triggers, you can change how long scenes last, what keyword triggers them, and a number of other cool features.
These options can be found under Settings > Chat > OBS
Setting it up is simple. Once you have a source set up in OBS, within Lumia, set the name, scene, and source. Through the Chat settings, you can alter all the settings you need in order to have the scene exactly as you like it.
Have fun experimenting with different sources and triggers! There are a ton of things that you can do with Lumia’s new integration with OBS. The sky's the limit!
